Encore: AI-Powered Thrift Shopping Made Easy
Encore, a new AI-powered search engine, helps people find thrifted items online from sites like eBay, Poshmark, and Etsy.
Co-founders Alex Ruber and Parth Chopra, former Apple and Twitter engineers, created Encore to simplify secondhand shopping.
Users can search by typing detailed descriptions, like “Emily’s dress from ‘Emily in Paris,’” and even get outfit ideas. Encore, part of Y Combinator, offers a $3 monthly subscription for unlimited searches and image-based search options.
AI LIFEGUARD
Meet the First AI-Powered Lifeguard Robot
Chinese scientists have launched the first fully autonomous AI-powered lifeguard robot, now stationed at a riverside in Luohe city, Henan.
Designed by the Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences, this robot uses AI, big data, and advanced tracking to continuously monitor swimmers, identify drowning individuals, and perform rescues with a life-saving buoy and rescue arm.
No human intervention.
The robot monitors a designated area through a network of 100 optical and thermal cameras that send footage to a central server.
If it detects someone in distress, it deploys quickly, providing a faster response than traditional lifeguards.
This life-saving innovation could redefine water safety by minimizing the critical rescue window in near-drowning situations.

AI Companies Shift Focus as Scaling Hits Limits
OpenAI and other AI firms face delays and limits with current model training methods.
To tackle this, they're trying new techniques that let AI models "think" more like humans during use, boosting performance without massive data and power needs.
OpenAI’s new o1 model follows this approach, aiming to save energy and reduce demand for costly AI chips like Nvidia’s.
This shift could reshape the AI hardware market.
