Texas to Host Samsung's Pioneering 2nm Chip Manufacturing

Credit: Samsung HBM3E

Samsung is set to advance U.S. chipmaking capabilities by producing 2nm semiconductors at its new Texas plant, starting in 2026, as part of a $40 billion investment.

This effort, supported by up to $6.4 billion from the U.S. Chips and Science Act, aims to bolster domestic chip production to 20% of global supply by 2030.

The initiative addresses vulnerabilities in the U.S. supply chain and seeks to re-establish leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and R&D.

Like last newsletter readers believe, this is in response to ensuring the USA has control of Chip development that powers our everyday lives.

Betaworks is pioneering with AI agents in its latest "Camp" program, focusing on automating complex tasks.

This initiative has supported nine start-ups that develop AI to streamline jobs like email sorting and meeting scheduling.

While these AI tools promise to simplify daily operations, their success depends on gaining user trust and widespread adoption.

Here are the 9 Start-Ups:

  1. Twin: Automates tasks through an action model that understands software interfaces, aiming to simplify repetitive tasks.

  2. Skej (below): Simplifies scheduling by reconciling availability and preferences through email or Slack, functioning like an AI assistant.

  3. Jsonify: Enhances website scraping by using visual AI models to extract and structure data from complex web layouts.

  4. Resolvd AI: Automates cloud workflow processes, providing solutions until custom integrations can take over.

  5. Floode: Manages email inboxes by highlighting important messages and drafting responses, streamlining communication.

  6. Extensible AI: Offers infrastructure for testing and logging to ensure AI systems are functioning correctly and efficiently.

  7. Opponent: Creates virtual characters for children to interact with, focusing on extensive engagement and play.

  8. High Dimensional Research: Provides a framework for web-based AI agents, allowing companies to experiment with a pay-as-you-go model.

  9. Mbodi: Develops generative AI for robotics, a field that typically lacks extensive training data, aiming to enhance robotic responsiveness.
