Chinese AI models, especially Alibaba's Qwen, dominate the new Hugging Face LLM leaderboard, taking three of the top ten spots.

Hugging Face, a platform for AI tools and models, tests AI on knowledge, reasoning, math, and instruction.

Meta's Llama models fell in rank due to over-optimization.

AI Voice Analysis: Early Alzheimer's Detection Breakthrough

Boston University researchers have created an AI system that can detect early signs of Alzheimer's Disease by analyzing a patient’s voice.

The system uses natural language processing and machine learning to predict if someone will develop Alzheimer’s within six years.

In tests, it was 78.5% accurate with 166 patients. This tool could help doctors diagnose Alzheimer's earlier, improving treatment options.

A study included 49,841 older adults (average age 67) with 54.7% women. Over an average follow-up of 6.72 years, there were 414 cases of dementia in a total of 334,937 person-years. See Figure 1 and Table 1 for details.

The AI analyzes voice recordings from neuropsychological exams and demographic data to identify those at risk.

It can even perform remote assessments, allowing patients to send voice recordings for diagnosis.

Early detection is crucial as it gives patients more treatment opportunities, including participation in clinical trials.

Microsoft Exec Claims Open Web Content Is 'Freeware'—Is He Right?

Microsoft AI boss Mustafa Suleyman claims that content on the open web is "freeware" and can be copied freely, which misinterprets copyright law.

He argues this falls under fair use, a legal defense decided by courts. Microsoft faces lawsuits for allegedly using copyrighted content to train AI models.

Suleyman acknowledges that robots.txt files, which restrict web scraping, might hold legal weight, but these are not currently enforceable as legal documents.
